How I Shared the News With Hubby-Pregnancy Number 1

Of course, the excitement over my first pregnancy was unlike any other. I COULD NOT WAIT to share the news with my husband. After I got a positive pregnancy test, I created a paper jigsaw puzzle. I hid the pieces throughout the house while Hubby took his morning shower. (We were foster parents at the time and our one year old foster son thought hiding the pieces was the best thing ever. Added to my excitement even more!)

On the back of each puzzle piece, was a clue directing my husband where to look next. I hid them in crazy places like inside a cereal box and between plates stacked in the cupboard. The finished result looked like this...

Sorry for the poor photo quality. I had to take this from my daughter's scrapbook.

How I Shared the News With Hubby

This is my third pregnancy and each time I've tried to share the news with my husband in a memorable way. I thought I'd share what I did this time and then, just for fun, share what I did the other two times. I know I was always looking for creative inspiration when trying decide how to share the news. Maybe my wacky ideas will help someone else!

For this pregnancy, I drew up an Employement Agreement between "Blessed Baby Number 3" (Employer) and Hubby (Employee).

EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT

AGREEMENT dated as of May 22, 2008 between Blessed Baby Number 3 (“Employer”) and Hubby (“Employee”) (also lovingly referred to as “DADDEEEEE!” by the Our Family Child 1 and Child 2-No, not Thing 1 and Thing 2) with offices at Our Street in Our Town in Our State.

As outlined in this document, the parties hereby agree to the following…

1. Employment and Duties.

(a) Employee shall be the primary male guardian for the Employer for all of his or her, days.

(b) Employee shall lovingly nurture, and guide, Employer throughout the winding
roadways of life.

(c) Employee shall always display the love of Christ and lead the Employer toward
the path of Salvation.

(d) Employee shall play crazy and/or loud music and tell exciting bedtime stories about lost sheep.

(e) Employee shall teach the Employer life skills such as how to use a spoon (“Scoop and BITE!”) and how to ride a bike.

2. Term of Employment. The term of Employee’s employment hereunder (“Term”) shall commence on January 28, 2009 (or whenever Employer, and God, decide) and shall continue for all of the Employee’s days).

3. Compensation.

(a) Salary. As compensation for Employee’s services during the Term, Employer shall pay Employee a salary of hundreds of sticky kisses and countless cozy cuddles. A few dozen headaches and more sleepless nights than can be spoken of here. Significant heart growth as it will expand exponentially to accommodate the great love for the Employer.

(b) Fringe Benefits. The chance to enjoy the beauty, and intrigue, of childhood for a few more years. The opportunity to develop a new relationship with a new creation fresh from God.

(c) Vacation. Employee shall be entitled to vacation time upon the Employer’s completion of high school. Additional snippets of time off may be available if the female employee of the company is feeling generous!

(d) Expenses. Employee shall pay for any, and all, expenses the Employer may acquire during the first 18 years, or so, of this contract. After that, it is to be required that the Employer learn to provide the means by which to support his, or her, self. (You may wish to make this an addendum to the job duties listed above).

The Verdict Is In

I may be clumsy...

But I am ALSO pregnant!

We praise God for His amazing blessing to our family. The baby has an estimated due date of January 28, 2009. However, my daughter was born 6 days before her due date and my son was born 10 days after his due date (via an induction). Time will tell...

Is It Possible That Dropping a Boiling Pot of Potatoes Is a Good Thing?

So the whole thing started when I went to drain the water from the potatoes. I had some sort of unexplainable slip up and the pot jumped from my hands (or at least that's how my story goes anyway!) Most of my carefully peeled potatoes landed in a sink full of dirty dishes-sigh. Thankfully, I had gone overboard on the potatoes and my family still had enough to eat!

Typically, this whole experience would just frustrate me to no end and put a significant kink in my day. However, I seem to become quite clumsy when I'm pregnant. And, I really hoping to be pregnant, but it's just too soon to tell. So....

Maybe it is possible that dropping a boiling pot of potatoes is a good thing =)

Since that initial slip up, I've had numerous more. I've dropped a raw egg I was trying to get out of the refrigerator. I've dropped a take home container full of food from a restaurant. I dropped a glass of milk I poured for my daughter.

It is highly probably that I am just clumsy and this has nothing to do with a possible pregnancy. I guess at this point only time will tell. In the meantime, I'm going to try to stay away from anything fragile. Thankfully, I've yet to drop my children =)
